Bangladesh has welcomed the official recognition of Palestine as an independent state by four countries. Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain stated that this marks progress on the path to full sovereignty for Palestine.

Speaking to reporters in New York on Monday, he said that Dhaka rejected Israel’s offer of recognition after Bangladesh’s independence and instead expressed support for the Palestinians. For over five decades, Bangladesh has maintained this position.

The Foreign Affairs Adviser said, "Since we have always supported Palestine and stood by its people, we welcome the recognition by these four countries. We consider this to be good news."

Through the recognition by the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and Portugal, the Palestinians seeking independence have gained direct support from more than 150 countries. Although this move plays a role in the creation of a sovereign state, the adviser noted that the Palestinian people still have a long way to go.

Another influential Western country, France, is also expected to recognize Palestine as a state soon. If that happens, Palestine will have the recognition of four out of the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council.
