The government has declared a building inside Dhaka Cantonment as a temporary prison, according to a government notification issued on Sunday (October 12).

The Home Ministry’s Prison-1 Wing issued the order, signed by Md Hafiz Al Asad, a deputy secretary at the Security Services Division.

Citing Section 541(1) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898, and Section 3(b) of the Prisons Act, 1894, the notice declares MES Building No. 54—north of Bashar Road within the cantonment—an interim place of detention with immediate effect.

The order states it was issued with the approval of the competent authority. It does not specify the purpose for which the facility will be used as a temporary prison.
