Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun on Friday (January 5) said law enforcement agencies found out sabotage planned during the 12th general election.

He said at a press briefing held on the premises of Willes Little Flower School and College in the capital.

IGP said, "We are working with intelligence agencies to thwart all kinds of terrorist activities in the country ahead of the polls."

He said, "A Chhatra Dal leader of Magura district unit was arrested on Thursday with explosives. During interrogation, he confessed that they had a plan to create a terrifying atmosphere by exploding crude bombs ahead of the election."

The police will continue working to maintain law and order and create a conducive atmosphere for a free and fair election in line with the directives of the Election Commission, he added.
