The final number of valid candidates contesting Bangladesh’s 13th national parliamentary election across all 300 constituencies is set to be known on Sunday, as the scrutiny of nomination papers enters its final day.

Election officials said that returning officers are completing the review process, after which the Election Commission (EC) will publish the nationwide list of valid and cancelled nominations.

Out of a total of 238 candidates in 20 parliamentary constituencies of Dhaka, 161 candidates' nomination papers have been declared valid. 81 have been cancelled.

According to the schedule, the appeal to the EC against the decision of the returning officer or assistant returning officer to cancel the candidacy will start from January 5. Appeals can be filed with the Election Commission until January 9.

The appeal will be heard and settled between January 10 and 18, and the 13th National Parliament election and referendum will be held on February 12.
