Election Commissioner Brigadier General (retd) Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah on Wednesday said the Election Commission (EC) would take all necessary measures to ensure a free, fair and acceptable election.

He made the remarks while inaugurating a project of the Alliance for Fair Elections and Democracy (AFED), a platform comprising 81 organisations, at the NGO Bureau office in Agargaon, Dhaka.

EC Sanaullah said that if I were to put the 2026 election in a metaphorical way, it would be like putting a derailed train back on the track. “An attempt to at least speed it up by making minimal repairs, replacing some parts. If we can do this, then we can consider this as our first major success. After that, we will have to move towards further improvement in the next direction.”

He aslo said, “Observers are the third eye of the EC. I want their observations to be of high quality. Let there be no deviation from the fundamental issues. All kinds of cooperation will be provided within the framework of the policy. All steps will be taken to make the elections free, fair and acceptable.”
