Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain has stated that there will be no compromise on the issue of sovereignty of member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

He made the remarks on Saturday at the 22nd Extraordinary Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers, held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The OIC convened the emergency session to discuss Israel’s recognition of a region of Somalia—Somaliland—and its implications for Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, as well as the broader regional and international consequences of such a move.

The Foreign Affairs Adviser said, “Bangladesh fully aligns itself with the OIC’s collective commitment to upholding international law, respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of member states, and preserving unity and solidarity within the Muslim world.”

He urged the OIC to clearly reject and condemn Israel’s recognition, and at the same time to reaffirm full and unwavering support for Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Touhid Hossain further stated, “The question of sovereignty of OIC member states is in no way negotiable. Illegal negotiations and initiatives are never acceptable, and justice, international law, and multilateralism must prevail over unilateral decisions and politics of pressure.”

Earlier on Saturday morning, a preparatory meeting of senior officials was held ahead of the special session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM), with the participation of a large number of representatives from OIC member states. The meeting reiterated continued solidarity with the Palestinian people.
