Today marks the 90th birth anniversary of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, Bir Uttam, the founder of multi-party democracy in Bangladesh and a distinguished freedom fighter.

Born on January 19, 1936, in Bogura, Ziaur Rahman spent his early years in Bogura and Kolkata before completing his education abroad. In 1955, he was commissioned as an officer after graduating from the Pakistan Military Academy, beginning a career defined by discipline, courage, and professionalism.

He demonstrated exceptional bravery during the 1965 Indo-Pak war at the Khem Karan sector. During the Liberation War of 1971, he served as a sector commander, playing a vital role in leading the struggle for Bangladesh’s independence. After the war, he returned to professional military service, reflecting his commitment to duty and integrity.

Later, responding to national needs, Ziaur Rahman entered politics and introduced multi-party democracy in the country. He emerged as the proponent of Bangladeshi nationalism, reshaping the nation’s political landscape. The political party he founded later grew into one of the largest political forces in Bangladesh.

Ziaur Rahman is remembered for his honesty, patriotism, courage, and simple lifestyle. His political philosophy and vision for the nation continue to be regarded as relevant and enduring.

To commemorate his 90th birth anniversary, a two-day program has been arranged, including tributes at his mausoleum, prayers, social service initiatives, and a discussion meeting highlighting his life, leadership, and political ideology.
