Today, testimony begins in the case over alleged enforced disappearances and torture at the DGFI’s Joint Interrogation Center (JIC), involving 26 victims, with former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 12 military officers named as accused.

The proceedings are being conducted under a three-member panel of the International Crimes Tribunal–1, chaired by Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder. The other members of the panel are Justice Md. Shafiul Alam Mahmud and retired District and Sessions Judge Md. Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury.

The tribunal has formed five charges against 13 accused. Currently, three of them are in custody: former DGFI Director Major General Sheikh Md. Sarwar Hossain, Brigadier General Md. Mahbubur Rahman Siddiqui, and Brigadier General Ahmed Tanvir Mazahar Siddiqui.

Among the ten absconding accused, five previously served as DGFI Directors. Others include former defense advisor to Sheikh Hasina, Major General (retd.) Tariq Ahmed Siddique, and additional military officers.

According to the prosecution, between October 22, 2015, and August 5, 2024, 26 individuals were allegedly subjected to enforced disappearances and torture. Today’s testimony will present initial evidence regarding these charges.
