While rumours of a second marriage continue to swirl around actor Dhanush, his film has landed in serious legal trouble. The controversy comes at a time when speculation about his relationship with actress Mrunal Thakur has gained momentum.

The film Tere Ishq Mein, starring Dhanush and Kriti Sanon, received a strong response after its release, but is now facing allegations of copyright and intellectual property infringement. A lawsuit seeking compensation of ₹84 crore has been filed against the film’s director Anand L Rai and his production company.

The complaint alleges that the movie has been deliberately promoted as a “spiritual sequel” to the 2013 cult hit Raanjhanaa, despite the original film’s intellectual property rights belonging entirely to another studio.

According to the lawsuit, producing or marketing any sequel, prequel or remake without proper consent violates commercial and legal norms. The use of nostalgia and branding linked to the earlier film has also been challenged.

Objections have additionally been raised over the reuse of the popular character “Murari,” played by the same actor in both films, claiming unauthorized commercial exploitation.

The lawsuit further claims that Dhanush’s character in Tere Ishq Mein closely resembles his earlier role in terms of emotions, dialogue delivery and philosophy, suggesting deliberate imitation.

However, sources close to director Anand L Rai maintain that Tere Ishq Mein is an entirely independent story and not a direct sequel to Raanjhanaa.
