Postal ballots have reached the addresses of 373,000 expatriates

Postal ballots have reached the addresses of 373,398 voters residing in different countries around the world so that they can cast their votes in the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election and referendum. Among them, 196,625 voters have already scanned the QR code.

According to sources at the Election Commission (EC), expatriate voters who registered for postal voting will be able to exercise their voting rights and send their ballots back to Bangladesh once election symbols are allocated on 21 January.

Salim Ahmad Khan, Team Leader of the expatriate voter registration project titled OCV-SDI, said, “So far, postal ballots have been sent to the addresses of 373,398 expatriates. However, 5,126 ballots have been returned to the country due to incorrect addresses or because the voters could not be found at the given addresses.”

Earlier, the Election Commission completed the process of sending postal ballots to a total of 767,028 expatriate voters residing in 121 countries.

According to EC data, a total of 1,533,683 voters—both at home and abroad—have registered through the ‘Postal Vote BD’ app.

Election officials said that after the allocation of election symbols, expatriate voters will need to cast their votes using the postal ballot and send them by mail to the office of the returning officer of their respective constituencies in Bangladesh.
