Sarvamitra Chakma, a member of the Executive Committee of the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU), has decided to resign from her position. At the same time, she has expressed regret over the incident involving making some youths do sit-ups while holding their ears.

He announced her decision in a Facebook post at 2:44 pm on Monday (January 26).

In the post, He said, “I have decided to resign from my position as an Executive Committee member of DUCSU. This decision is entirely personal and not driven by anger or resentment toward anyone. I believe I have failed to meet the expectations of the students who elected me as their representative. Taking responsibility for the administration’s non-cooperation and failures, I have chosen to step down.”

Expressing regret over the incident at the Physical Education Centre, she wrote that the field of the Dhaka University Physical Education Centre is meant exclusively for university students. For a long time, unrestricted entry of outsiders has turned into a serious security concern. Incidents of harassment of female students by outsiders, as well as theft of mobile phones, wallets, and bicycles, have frequently occurred. These incidents not only threaten students’ personal safety but also undermine the dignity and safe environment of an educational institution.

He further wrote that despite students repeatedly informing the administration about the situation, no effective or visible measures have yet been taken. The Physical Education Centre has not been brought under CCTV coverage, security has not been strengthened, and no necessary steps have been taken to prevent the entry of outsiders. This prolonged silence and lack of cooperation from the administration have further complicated the situation.

Sarvamitra Chakma added that outsiders regularly enter the area by climbing over the wall opposite Dhaka Medical College. Despite being warned multiple times, they have ignored the restrictions. When stopped, they often retaliate by throwing stones at staff and fleeing, which clearly indicates a severe security risk. In such circumstances, even though students repeatedly lodged complaints, the absence of effective solutions led to growing anger and fear.

Expressing her remorse,He said, “Amid this administrative failure and insecurity, while trying to manage the situation, I was compelled to make outsiders do sit-ups by holding their ears in an attempt to stop their entry. This was by no means an action I desired or intended. I admit that punishing anyone in this manner was inappropriate, and for this incident I unconditionally seek forgiveness.”
