Election Commissioner (EC) Abdur Rahmanel Masud has said that even if candidates manage to contest and pass through the election by concealing information related to loan default, dual citizenship, or any other disqualifying issue in the 13th parliamentary election, the Commission will take action after the election if such allegations are proven.
He made these remarks on Monday (26 January) while speaking at his office.
The Election Commissioner said the EC will not compromise on electoral transparency. So far, the electoral environment remains intact, and the Commission is not feeling any political pressure.
He expressed hope that voting would take place in a fair, peaceful, and orderly environment and urged voters to go to polling centers freely and without fear.
Masud also said there is no pressure from political parties and that a level playing field has been ensured by providing equal opportunities for all. He added that there has been a positive change in political culture.
At the same time, he noted that there is no scope to exclude the Jatiya Party from the election, as its registration remains valid. According to the law, the party is eligible to participate in the polls.
