After winning the Africa Cup of Nations, Senegal’s President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has announced that members of the national football team will receive bonuses of more than USD 130,000 each, along with land plots in coastal areas.
The announcement was made on Tuesday night at a reception held in the capital, Dakar. Thousands of enthusiastic supporters took to the streets to welcome the victorious “Lions of Teranga.”
According to the announcement, each of the 28 players will receive a bonus of 75 million CFA francs (approximately USD 134,892). This brings the total bonus amount to 21 billion CFA francs, or around USD 3.7 million. In addition, each player will be given a land plot measuring 1,500 square meters.
Members of the Senegal Football Federation will receive bonuses of 50 million CFA francs each, along with land plots of 1,000 square meters. Members of the Senegal delegation who participated in the tournament held in Morocco will receive bonuses of 20 million CFA francs and land plots measuring 500 square meters.
President Faye also said that employees of the Ministry of Sports will receive a total of 305 million CFA francs in bonuses.
On Sunday, Senegal defeated host nation Morocco 1–0 in extra time to win the Africa Cup of Nations title for the second time in four years.
