Actor and producer Ananta Jalil has decided to step away from films for the time being due to business difficulties. He himself has said that his garments business has suffered a major downturn.
At one time, around 12,000 workers were employed at Ananta Jalil’s factory in Savar on the outskirts of the capital. Currently, that number has dropped to just 4,000. In this situation, he is now fully focusing on overcoming the business crisis.
Speaking about his business condition, Ananta Jalil said he has no thoughts of acting at the moment. He is even unable to complete the work on films that are currently pending.
In his words, “Even when I did films, I was never obsessed with cinema. Being business-minded, I used to keep track of my business even during shooting breaks. Until my business situation improves, it would not be right for me to return to films.”
He added, “When there is a crisis in any area, I focus on getting through that difficult time—that’s my character. Right now, business is not going well. If I ignore this and stay busy with films, I will face even tougher situations ahead.”
Ananta Jalil began his journey in the film industry in 2008 as both a producer and an actor. Since then, his wife Barsha has been associated with every one of his films.
On this matter, he said, “When we return to films, we will do it together. If not, neither of us will do films alone. This isn’t our profession—we work in films as a hobby.”
Currently, two of his films—Netri: The Leader and Operation Jackpot—were in the shooting stage. In addition, although the muhurt (launch) of the film Chita from the Masud Rana series under the banner of Jaaz Multimedia has taken place, shooting has not yet begun.
Regarding the future of these projects, Ananta Jalil commented, “If good times return someday, we’ll do them—otherwise, we won’t.”
