Is the Shakib Issue Being Used to Mask Bangladesh Cricket’s World Cup Failure?

Controversy surrounding Shakib Al Hasan is being used as a diversion to cover deeper failures within Bangladesh cricket administration, according to board director Rafiqul Islam Babu.

Following Bangladesh’s decision not to travel to India for the T20 World Cup over security concerns, criticism intensified after the ICC allowed another team to replace Bangladesh. Babu believes the board’s rushed decision exposed a lack of strategic planning and poor cricket diplomacy.

He argues that instead of addressing structural weaknesses and accountability, the focus has shifted toward individual controversies. Analysts say unless transparent decision-making and inclusive planning are adopted, Bangladesh cricket may continue to struggle both on and off the field.
