After a gap of 22 years, BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman is visiting Mymensingh today. He is scheduled to address a major election rally at the Circuit House Ground at 2:00 pm on Tuesday (January 27), where party leaders expect one of the largest political gatherings in the region’s history.

During the rally, Tarique Rahman will introduce BNP’s “Sheaf of Paddy” candidates from all 24 parliamentary constituencies of the Mymensingh division on a single stage and seek public support in their favor. The rally will be presided over by Zakir Hossain, convener of BNP Mymensingh South District.

Party leaders said the BNP chairperson will provide strategic guidance to grassroots leaders and candidates, outlining the party’s direction and campaign priorities ahead of the election.

At a press conference on Monday, BNP’s Mymensingh Divisional Organizing Secretary Shariful Alam said extensive preparations had already been completed. “We have held coordination meetings with leaders from four districts, as well as the Mymensingh city, north and south districts, and upazila units. Instructions have been given to leaders and activists of all units,” he said.

He added that work on the main stage is ongoing and multiple LED screens will be installed at different points around the venue to accommodate the large crowd expected to turn the area into a sea of people. Separate arrangements have also been made for women attendees.

Shariful Alam noted that Tarique Rahman last visited Mymensingh in 2004 for a union-level representatives’ meeting. “After nearly 22 years, people are extremely enthusiastic about his visit. We expect an unprecedented turnout, not only at the Circuit House Ground but across the city,” he said.

According to organizers, arrangements have been made to ensure drinking water facilities, CCTV surveillance across the entire venue, and coordination with the administration. “We have formally communicated with the authorities and are receiving their cooperation. We are confident this will be a successful rally,” Shariful Alam added.
