Case Trade Targets Business Leaders, Private Sector Faces Deep Crisis

Bangladesh’s private sector is facing severe disruption as alleged “case trade” has emerged as a major threat to business stability. Over the past year and a half, business owners have reportedly been targeted with false criminal cases, often to extort large sums of money.

Many industrialists and company heads have left the country or halted operations due to fear of arrest, resulting in declining production, delayed wages, and growing uncertainty in export-oriented industries. Stakeholders warn that continued harassment of entrepreneurs could severely damage investor confidence and employment generation.

Business leaders and legal experts stress that unless the government ensures protection for genuine entrepreneurs and takes action against false cases, the country’s economic recovery and industrial growth will remain at serious risk.
