Indian Parliament Moves Condolence Motion Following Khaleda Zia’s Death

Indian Rajya Sabha Adopts Condolence Motion Following Death of Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Khaleda Zia The Rajya Sabha of India has adopted a condolence motion following the death of Bangladesh’s first female Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson, Khaleda Zia. The motion was introduced in the upper house of India’s Parliament on Wednesday. The same motion also expressed condolences for the passing of former Rajya Sabha members L. Ganesan and Suresh Kalnadi.

Khaleda Zia passed away on 30 December at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka. To pay her last respects, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar visited Dhaka.

India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also expressed his deep condolences and respect for Khaleda Zia. He stated that the former Prime Minister played a key role in strengthening ties between India and Bangladesh, and her contributions will always be remembered.

At the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi, Rajnath Singh paid his respects to Khaleda Zia by signing the condolence book and leaving a message.

In his note, he wrote: “On the passing of former Prime Minister and Chairperson of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Khaleda Zia, I extend heartfelt condolences on behalf of the Government and people of India. Her significant contributions to strengthening India–Bangladesh relations will always be remembered.”
