Journalist Anis Alamgir has been shown arrested in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for allegedly accumulating undisclosed wealth worth BDT 3.26 crore. The order was issued on Wednesday by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md. Sabbir Foyez. ACC public prosecutor Tariqul Islam confirmed the information.

Anis Alamgir was brought to the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Court lockup at 9:50 a.m. Later, around 11 a.m., he appeared in court wearing a helmet and bulletproof vest with handcuffs, accompanied by 15–20 police officers. Before being presented in court, the helmet, vest, and handcuffs were removed. During the hearing, he stood behind the dock.

The investigation officer, on behalf of the ACC, requested that Alamgir be shown arrested. The court approved the application. His lawyer representation was accepted during the proceedings, and he was subsequently returned to the lockup.

The case, filed on 15 January, alleges that Alamgir owns immovable property worth BDT 25 lakh and movable assets worth BDT 3.84 crore, totaling BDT 4.09 crore. Adding family and other expenses, his total acquired wealth is BDT 4.25 crore. His declared income is BDT 99.09 lakh, leaving BDT 3.26 crore as unexplained wealth, about 77% of the total.

Earlier, on 14 December, Alamgir was interrogated by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Detective Branch, arrested under anti-terrorism law, denied bail, remanded for five days, and sent to prison on 20 December, where he remains.
