The United Kingdom has issued a travel advisory urging its citizens to exercise caution when visiting Bangladesh. The advisory, released Thursday by the British Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), highlights potential risks related to political violence and extremist attacks during the upcoming national election.

The FCDO notice states that Bangladesh will hold national elections on February 12, 2026, with election campaigning having begun on January 22. Citizens are warned that political rallies, polling stations, and public gatherings may be targeted, and indiscriminate violence could occur.

The advisory specifically recommends avoiding non-essential travel to the three hill districts of Chittagong and other remote areas. Travelers are advised to follow local authority guidance, and failure to comply may invalidate travel insurance. The warning aims to reduce risk and ensure safety during the election period.
