Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh has landed in legal trouble after an FIR was filed against him for allegedly hurting religious sentiments in India’s Karnataka state.
The complaint stems from an incident at a public event in Goa, where Ranveer, while praising the film Kantara, reportedly mimicked Goddess Chamunda and made remarks that were considered offensive by members of the Hindu community.
According to the complaint, the actor’s actions insulted a revered deity deeply connected to the cultural and spiritual identity of coastal Karnataka. Police have registered the case under multiple sections related to religious insult and are reviewing the matter.
Although Ranveer Singh later issued an apology amid public backlash, legal proceedings continue. The incident has sparked a broader debate on the responsibility of celebrities when addressing religious and cultural subjects in public forums.
