Iran’s newly appointed supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei has reportedly been taken to Moscow for emergency surgery after being seriously injured in an Israeli strike, according to media reports.

Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Jarida claimed that Khamenei was secretly transported to Russia aboard a military aircraft following a severe deterioration in his condition.

The development comes after Iran’s longtime supreme leader Ali Khamenei was reportedly killed in an Israeli airstrike in Tehran on February 28. Following his death, Mojtaba Khamenei was chosen as the country’s new supreme religious leader.

Several reports suggested that Mojtaba was also critically wounded during the same wave of attacks and was initially admitted to Sina University Hospital in Tehran, where he allegedly fell into a coma.

According to the report, Russian President Vladimir Putin personally arranged for Khamenei to be transferred to Moscow for urgent treatment.

The Kuwaiti outlet claimed that he was placed in a presidential residence in Moscow, where doctors performed surgery on his leg.

Some sources have also alleged that his injuries were so severe that one or both of his legs may have been amputated, and that other organs including his liver and stomach were damaged.

Iranian officials have acknowledged that the new leader was injured but have not released detailed information about his condition.

The lack of official updates has fueled speculation about Khamenei’s health and his ability to lead the country during the ongoing conflict.
