The first session of the 13th National Parliament is set to resume today, Sunday (March 29), after a brief hiatus for the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays and other official breaks. The parliamentary proceedings are expected to be intensive as both treasury and opposition bench members return to discuss national priorities.
According to the official schedule, the day’s proceedings will commence with a parliamentary meeting of the ruling party. Simultaneously, a high-level meeting of the special parliamentary committee on ordinances is also slated to take place. These meetings are crucial for aligning the legislative agenda and reviewing government ordinances passed during the recess.
Originally, the session began on March 12, but it was adjourned on March 15 due to the religious festivities and public holidays. On this third working day of the session, the house will hold a comprehensive discussion on the thanksgiving motion regarding the President's speech. This segment often serves as a platform for robust political debate, where legislators evaluate the government's roadmap and policy directions.
In addition to the presidential address, the session will include a dedicated question-and-answer hour for ministers, providing an opportunity for backbenchers to seek clarity on departmental activities. Public interest notices will also be tabled and discussed, ensuring that pressing local and national issues are addressed on the floor of the House.
As per the decision of the House Business Advisory Committee, this session will remain functional until April 30. Political analysts believe that this extended period will be instrumental in passing several key bills and strengthening the democratic process through active legislative participation.
