Justice Md. Rezaul Hasan of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court has resigned from his post following serious allegations of corruption, misconduct, and abuse of judicial power. He submitted his resignation letter to the President through the Supreme Court administration on Monday (March 30), sources confirmed.

The resignation follows a formal complaint filed with the Supreme Judicial Council by K M Mojibul Haque, Chairman of Shah Group. The petition sought an investigation into the Justice's conduct, alleging systematic bias and misuse of office. According to the complaint, Justice Rezaul Hasan exhibited extreme bias in two company-related cases in 2010 and 2011.

One of the most striking allegations involves a verdict where the Justice reportedly documented fictional arguments attributed to a senior lawyer who was not even present during the hearing. This judgment was subsequently overturned by the Appellate Division. Furthermore, it is alleged that in another case, he cancelled 1.3 million shares belonging to the petitioner’s wife without making her a party to the proceedings—an act described as a gross violation of the principles of natural justice.

Legal experts view this resignation as a significant event in the judiciary, especially as it occurred while the Supreme Judicial Council was potentially gearing up for a probe. The move is seen by many as a measure to uphold the integrity of the higher judiciary. "The resignation of a sitting judge under such clouds of suspicion highlights the ongoing efforts to ensure accountability within the judicial system," remarked a senior advocate. The Supreme Court administration is currently processing the formal requirements following the submission of the resignation.
