Leadership Now in Hands of Anti-Uprising Elements

Allegations of infiltration and position trading within the BNP in Bandarban have sparked widespread anger and discontent following the fall of the Awami League government. Local leaders and activists have strongly criticized the appointment of Mehedi Hasan, younger brother of an Awami League-linked figure, as Organizational Secretary of the district Krishak Dal. They warn that failure to take swift disciplinary action could lead to a major split within the party.

Investigations reveal that Anisur Rahman Sujan, brother of Mehedi, served as an adviser to the “Bir Bahadur Foundation,” owned by former Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Minister Bir Bahadur Ushaising. Sujan was known as a key policymaker within the district Awami League and is accused of financially supporting efforts to suppress the 2024 mass uprising. During that time, Mehedi allegedly assisted him at the field level.

After the political shift on August 5, Mehedi is accused of securing his position by influencing a faction within BNP through financial means. Grassroots leaders claim this has deprived long-time loyal activists of deserved positions, intensifying frustration within the party.

Despite repeated attempts to contact Ahidur Rahman Chowdhury, alias Mehedi, on his mobile phone, it was not possible to contact him.

Several senior BNP leaders, speaking anonymously, described the appointment as a betrayal of those who sacrificed during the uprising. They warned that retaining such controversial figures could destabilize the district unit.

The district Krishak Dal president stated that no concrete evidence has yet been submitted and urged that any proof be formally provided for verification. Meanwhile, repeated attempts to contact General Secretary Monir Hossain Bhuiyan were unsuccessful.

Local leaders are now demanding the removal of controversial figures and calling for leadership based on merit and dedication to restore unity and discipline within the party.
