Development and rehabilitation work on six roads in Mohanpur upazila of Rajshahi has been inaugurated as part of various road improvement initiatives.

Advocate Mohammad Shafiqul Haque Milon, MP, lawmaker from the Paba-Mohanpur constituency and a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Water Resources, inaugurated the development works on Monday (August 24) as the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, he said the government is committed to fulfilling its electoral pledges. People across the country have already started benefiting from various government initiatives. Within six months of forming the government, initiatives have been launched to provide Family Cards and Agriculture Cards, along with allowances for imams, muezzins, khadems, priests and other religious leaders.

He said women across the country would gradually be brought under the Family Card programme. The government is working rapidly toward this goal. Women from all religions, political affiliations and professions will be eligible for the card, he said.

Similarly, there will be no discrimination in providing Agriculture Cards, he added, saying that farmers would receive the benefits of the programme.

Among those present at the inauguration were Mohanpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Fahima Binte Akhtar, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Zobaida Sultana, Upazila Engineer Rakib Hasan, Sub-Assistant Engineers Ripon Ali Sarker and Sabbir Khandaker, Mohanpur Upazila BNP President Shamimun Islam Mun, General Secretary Mahbub Ar Rashid, former Organising Secretary Kazim Uddin, and leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliated organisations.

The six roads inaugurated include a 1,195-metre road from beside Chandpur Chourasta Jame Mosque through Makhonpur Cluster Village to the residence of Munsur Member; a 1,200-metre road from Mougachhi GPS to Krishnapur UZR; a 990-metre road from Kotalipara UZR to Kotalipara BWDB; a 1,270-metre road from Darapara to Mugaipara Hat; a 1,500-metre road from Bishohara UZR to Hatkhola; and a 450-metre road from Krishnapur UZR to Krishnapur East Para.

Residents said the roads are important for communication and daily travel for people in Chandpur, Nakrajighat, Hindupara, Dhorsa, Chak Birahi, Bishohara and Krishnapur areas.

They expressed hope that once the development works are completed, communication and transportation facilities in these areas will become easier and more convenient.
