Jatiya Party (JaPa) is going to take part in the upcoming 12th general election on January 7 bringing an end to all the speculations.

JaPa secretary general Mujibul Huq Chunnu stated it at a press conference held at the party chairman's Banani office in the capital at 3:30pm on Sunday.

Earlier, the JaPa secretary general said they would tell on Sunday afternoon whether they will take part in the election or not.

Chunnu said JaPa chairman GM Quader holds meeting with senior leaders of the party. No final decision has been taken yet. He said stay or not stay in election doesn't a matter related to consensus with the government. Rather, it is a matter related to party decision. "We are taking several more hours for our own interest."

Awami League and Jatiya Party sources said JaPa has requested the Awami League to withdraw the candidates of 'Boat' symbol in a number of constituencies.

Besides, JaPa wants that AL's independent candidates withdrew their candidacies. Both the parties have been holding meetings on the issue over the last couple of days.

However, they have kept the venue and meeting agenda secret.
