Large areas of Moulvibazar have been inundated by continuous heavy rains and water from the hills coming down from the upstream. At least 37 unions of 7 upazilas of the district and 2 people of 2 municipalities have been deprived of water supply. All the rivers including Kushiara, Manu, Dhalai, Juri, Sonai, and Fanai are flowing above the danger level here. Dhalai River broke the dam in the Baracheg area of Rahimpur union of Kamalganj upazila and flooded a wide area. The dam of the Manu River has become extremely dangerous at 11 places in Tengra and Kamarchak of Rajnagar upazila and Hajipur Tilagao and Prithimpasha union of Kulaura upazila.
Meanwhile, due to excessive water in the Kushiara River, the water drainage route of Hakaluki Haor has been blocked. In this, the largest sea in Asia swelled and took the form of a sea. As the water of Haor cannot go down, there is a terrible flood in the plain.
According to the District Commissioner's office, 432 villages of 39 unions of Kulaura, Barlekha, Kamalganj, Rajnagar, Sadar, Juri, and Srimangal upazilas have been flooded. More than 1 lakh 93 thousand people are affected by flood. All educational institutions in the inundated areas have been declared shelters. Already 531 families have taken shelter in these shelters. The administration has already distributed dry food among the people sheltered in these shelters.
Kamalganj Upazila executive officer Zainal Abedin said that in the Baracheg area of Rahimpur union of Kamalganj Upazila, a 20-meter slab has been breached by the Dhalai river. As a result, 10 villages in the union have been flooded.
The number of flood victims will be 12-15 hundred. He said that although no new allocation has been received, the local allocation has been distributed. Besides, 6 medical teams have been formed.
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Urmi Binte Salam said that he has visited many areas of Sadar Upazila. Directed all the UNOs to monitor the flood situation at all times and take effective action and directed to arrange food and water along with essential medicines in the shelters.
