UGC Chairman Kazi Shahidullah quits

University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Professor Dr Kazi Shahidullah has resigned from his post.

He submitted his resignation letter to the Ministry of Education on Sunday (Aug 11) morning. He cited illness as the reason for his resignation.

A source from the UGC confirmed the matter.

“I joined the UGC as its Chairman on May 28, 2023, according to the gazette notification issued by the Ministry of Education. Since August of last year, I have been staying in Australia for medical treatment due to physical illness according to the office order of Secondary and Higher Education Department,” he mentioned in the resignation letter.

He also wrote: “In view of the advice from the expert doctor in Australia and my current physical condition, I am declaring my incapacity to fulfill the duties of the commission's Chairman.”

Kazi Shahidullah started his career as a Lecturer in the History Department of Dhaka University, where he served as the chairman of the department. He also served as dean of the Faculty of Arts, Senate and Syndicate member of Dhaka University. Besides, he served as the vice-chancellor of the National University.
