A court here today placed former law minister Anisul Huq and Salman F Rahman, former private industry affairs adviser to ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, on a five-day remand in a case lodged under The Foreign Exchange Regulation Act, 1947.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Arifur Rahman passed the order as police produced the duo before the court, pleaded to show them arrested in the case and place them on a seven-day remand.

Sub-inspector Md Sajib Miah of New Market Police Station filed the case with Kotwali Police Station on September 13.

Anisul and Salman, two stalwarts of the former autocratic government of Sheikh Hasina, were arrested from the Sadarghat area as they were trying to flee the capital through the waterways on August 13.

Police recovered USD 17,592 and 726 Singapore dollars from the possession of Anisul, while Salman F Rahman was carrying USD 12,624, 8,500 USD dirhams, 11,650 rials, 779 Singapore dollars, 150 British pounds, 1,332 euros, among other foreign currencies.
