Army Become a 'Symbol of Trust' After July Revolution: Dr Yunus

Chief advisor Dr Muhammad Yunus said that after the student uprising, the army has once again been recognized as a symbol of trust by the people of Bangladesh.

He stated this during the official inauguration of the 'Sena Sadar Election Board-2024' as the chief guest at Army Head Quarters on Sunday (October 6).

Dr. Muhammad Yunus said, "Bangladesh Army stood by the people of the country at crisis moments and saved the country from an unstable situation by speeding up the process of forming an interim government. As a result, Bangladesh Army has once again been recognized as a symbol of trust by the people of the country."

In this 1st phase promotion board, the eligible officers of the rank of colonel and lieutenant colonel of the Bangladesh Army will be considered for further promotion.

In this context, he said, officers should be selected with an emphasis on professional skills, leadership qualities, standards of discipline, honesty, trustworthiness, loyalty, and above all, suitability for employment for promotion. He gave instructions to election board members in this regard.

Yunus said, "Officers with honesty, integrity, and other leadership qualities deserve higher promotion. It also directs the selection for promotion of those officers who have succeeded in providing competent leadership in various activities of military life, irrespective of political ideology."

First of his speech, Chief Guest Dr. Muhammad Yunus welcomed everyone to the new Bangladesh, soaked in the revolution of the students. At this time, he remembered with deep respect all those who died in the anti-discrimination student movement in July-August. He also remembered all the brave soldiers of the armed forces and army martyrs who participated in the Great War of Independence.

Earlier, Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman welcomed the Chief Advisor on his arrival at the venue. The army chief expressed gratitude and thanks to the chief advisor for being present amid a busy schedule and inaugurating the election board. The defense secretary was present along with the senior officers of the army in the inauguration ceremony of the Sena Sadar Election Board.

At the end of the ceremony, the Chief Adviser participated in a photo session with the army officers present and recorded comments in the inspection book.
