Friendship is a value-based non-profit organization run by clemency, in-depth knowledge, dignity and long-term experiences at grassroots level, has been working with an aim to address the needs of the marginalized communities of the northern riverine islands and southern coastal areas of Bangladesh to ensure services required.
Friendship is providing its service through 6 different sectors - Health, Education, Climate Action, Inclusive Citizenship, Sustainable Economic Development and Cultural Preservation for poorest of the poor people dowelling in the disadvantaged, hard to reach climate impacted poverty prone areas and introducing a new Project – Friendship Inclusive development Programme under Inclusive Citizenship Sector working recently in 50 Char Islands of Kurigram and Gaibandha District. The project works through the five components of CBR matrix - health, education, livelihood, social and empowerment to improve the living standards of persons with disabilities and ensure equal rights as well as social and economic inclusion to achieve integration into the society living a life with dignity and hope.
In recognition of the good work done for the betterment of lives of the persons with disabilities decreasing limitations Friendship is nominated as the best institution in Kurigram district. Consequently, as a pioneer organization implementing CBR approach in climate impacted vulnerable chars Friendship won the prestigious Disability Award at district level. Also in other categories, individuals associated with Friendship won the Disability Award at district level. Apina Khatun CBR Worker, Friendship Disability Inclusion Programme, Char Brohmottor, Kurigram Sadar won the first place as a successful person working with disabilities; Bishedu Chandra Das, from Char Brohmottor, Kurigram Sadar, Self-help group member of Friendship Disability Inclusion Prpgramme won the first place as a successful person with disability. Furfuri Beoua, from Char Brohmottor, Kurigram Sadar, Caregiver of Self-help group member of Friendship Disability Inclusion Prpgramme won the first place as a successful caregiver of person with disability. Sefali Begum, from Char Khamar Halokhana, Kurigram Sadar, mother of Self-help group member of Friendship Disability Inclusion Prpgramme won the first place as successful parent of person with disability.
Friendship and all those mentioned above received the disability award from District Administration and District Social Services.
At the award distribution ceremony, the Honorable Additional Deputy Commissioner, Deputy Director-Social Services, Assistant Director-Social Services and Consultant (Physiotherapy), Jatiyo Protibondi Unnayan Foundation, Kurigram praised the activities of the organization for being more suitable and exceptional for the people with disabilities and assured Friendship of full cooperation.
