On National Social Service Day-2025 in Kurigram, Friendship has been selected as the best voluntary organization in the district. In recognition of its outstanding contribution to the welfare of people, especially the welfare of people with disabilities, ‘Friendship’ received the prestigious ‘Human Welfare Award’ at the district level.
On Thursday (January 2) afternoon, Muha Humayun Kabir, Deputy Director of the District Social Services Department, handed over the award to Mahfizur Rahman, Assistant Project Manager of Friendship at the Disability Services and Support Center.
The program was presided over by Dr. Md. Arifur Rahman, Consultant (Physiotherapy) of the Disability Services and Support Center, National Disability Development Foundation, Kurigram.
Md. Humayun Kabir, Deputy Director of the District Social Services Office, spoke as the chief guest. Deputy Civil Surgeon of the Civil Surgeon's Office Dr. A.N.M. Golam Mohaimen, Assistant Director of the District Social Services Office Md. Shafiqul Islam and many others spoke as special guests.
The speakers praised the activities of 'Friendship' and assured to cooperate with 'Friendship' in all fields.
Upon receiving the award, Mahfizur Rahman Ripon, Assistant Project Manager of Friendship, said, "Through "Friendship", we are working for the welfare of the people living in the isolated char areas of Kurigram district to ensure basic human rights, the right to information, the right to health care, security and justice. Our main goal is to build a quality life for the people living in the char areas, who are almost deprived of basic services due to underdeveloped and inaccessible transportation systems, while ensuring equal rights, dignity, health, education, livelihood, empowerment, free and unhindered movement and equality of opportunity for people with disabilities.
It is worth noting that "Friendship" as a social welfare, non-profit private development organization has been conducting multifaceted activities to improve the quality of life of the marginalized communities in the river-centered char areas of the northern part of Bangladesh and the coastal areas of the southern part. For the overall welfare of the extremely poor people who survive by struggling with the inaccessible and hostile environment in these areas, "Friendship" has been working in six different departments - health, education, It is working for the welfare of the people living in the isolated char areas of Kurigram district by providing effective services under the umbrella of integrated citizenship, climate action, sustainable economic development, and cultural preservation.
