The Federal Reporters Society held a tree plantation program in the Dhaka-Tangail Four-Lane Highway (Nagarjalfoi) area today, Sunday (February 23). As part of its social responsibility to protect the environment and enhance the beauty of the road, 1,000 trees of different species were planted on both sides of the highway. The Federal Reporters Society is implementing this program in collaboration with Gulf Oil.
Tangail Additional Deputy Commissioner Abdullah Al Mamun spoke as the chief guest, Tangail Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Sohel Rana and Gulf Oil Managing Director Amlan Mitra spoke as special guests. Roads and Highways Department Sub-Divisional Engineer Md. Zahidul Islam, Deputy Assistant Engineer Khairul Islam and Tangail Press Club President Zafar Ahmed also spoke at the program.
The opening speech was delivered by the Joint Secretary of Tangail Press Club, Kazi Tajuddin Ripon, and chaired by the President of the Federal Reporters Society, Global TV Chief News Editor Ferdous Mamun. The Organizing Secretary of the organization, Mostafa Kamal (Suman Pramanik), Editor of the Daily Nagorik Sangbad, and Joint Secretary Sajid Sarkar.
The guest of honor said that if media workers take up social activities in addition to publishing news, then society will move forward. The role of media in protecting the environment is immense. The more people become aware, the better the environment will be. And if media workers accept this awareness. The responsibility, then it will improve quickly.
Amlan Mitra, Managing Director of Gulf Oil, said that Gulf Oil is always sincere in protecting and developing the natural environment. In making lubricants, we follow environmentally friendly processes, and beyond this, we have a responsibility to do something bigger. This is our social responsibility. We are happy to be a part of the tree plantation program organized by the Federal Reporters Society. Where we are planting new trees together, which will help maintain the balance of the environment and ensure a green world for our future generations. Our aim is not only to plant trees, but to send a message that we all have to protect the environment together, and no single organization or institution can fulfill this responsibility towards nature.
