Journalist humiliated for accusing election official of accepting bribe

A Noakhali District Election Office employee has returned the bribe money.

The bribe money taken from the journalist was returned on Wednesday (February 19) with the intervention of District Senior Election Officer Md. Nawabul Islam.

According to the written complaint, some office employees unethically took money from the service recipients when they went to the Noakhali District Election Office to obtain online verification of national identity cards and other services. To find out the truth, Noakhali Correspondent of Daily Amar Sangbad Imam Uddin Azad went to collect online verified copies of his and his friend's national identity cards on February 19 at around 12:30 pm and took money from the journalist, Account Assistant Tablu Sutradhar, in the presence of Senior Assistant Mohammad Mohiuddin. When he informed District Senior Election Officer Nawaful Islam about this, he recovered the bribe money. Later, when he came out of his room and came to the second floor, Mohammad Mohiuddin, a high-ranking assistant of the District Election Office, stopped the journalist Azad and reprimanded and humiliated him in foul language.

Investigation revealed that Mohammad Mohiuddin, who has been working in this office for a long time, is arrogant, fascist and autocratic, does not work without money. If he does not get money, he belittles the service seekers. He has become the owner of a lot of money by taking immoral benefits through a syndicate. In the meantime, he has bought a land in Harinarayan Pur of the municipality and is jointly carrying out the construction of a multi-storey building.

When asked about the complaint, Mohammad Mohiuddin, a high-ranking assistant of the District Election Office, said, I have exchanged high words with the journalist. He brought two amendments and a verified work. Later, when he finished the work, he asked for a verified copy. The employees working in the office asked if these are yours. He said they are not his and kept his money. Later, when he informed the district senior election officer, the money was returned on his orders.

When contacted, District Senior Election Officer Md. Nawabul Islam said, "There have been discussions, I am looking into the matter."
