Today marks World Health Day. To commemorate the occasion, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the Directorate General of Health Services, and various non-governmental development organizations working in the health sector have undertaken numerous programs.

In line with the theme designated by the World Health Organization, Bangladesh will also celebrate the day this year. The theme for this year has been set as "Safe Birth, Bright Future."

On the occasion of the day, Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has issued a message.

Emphasizing the necessity of collective efforts at local and international levels for the improvement of maternal and child health, the Chief Advisor stated in his message, "The interim government formed after the '24 mass uprising is committed to establishing Bangladesh in the world as a secure and radiant nation by providing priority healthcare to women and children."

Muhammad Yunus further said, "More extensive programs need to be adopted to reduce maternal and child mortality. Maternal and child mortality rates still remain a significant challenge in achieving the desired goals. Therefore, a concerted effort is essential from all levels, both national and international."

In February 1946, the United Nations Economic and Social Council decided to convene an international health conference. The International Health Conference was held in June and July of the same year, and the constitution of the World Health Organization was adopted.

The organization's constitution officially came into effect on April 7, 1948. This day was designated as World Health Day. Each year, the organization selects a health issue of particular importance to the entire world. The day is observed locally and internationally.
