Kurigram is a district bordering the north. There are about four hundred char areas in this district surrounded by 16 rivers. The district administration has started working to improve the quality of life of the backward population in education, health and employment. The district administration has already taken up various activities including renovation of textile mills in the district, educational programs of the Agricultural University, training of women in remote areas to create self-employment opportunities for women, and sending people abroad.
In continuation of this, Kurigram Deputy Commissioner Nusrat Sultana has taken the initiative to build Kurigram DC Park in the Dharla River basin in this entertainment-free district. The district residents have appreciated the initiative of the Deputy Commissioner. There is a tide of happiness flowing among entertainment-loving people.
About 2.4 million people live in Kurigram district. It has been the long-standing hope of entertainment-loving people that a park should be built on the banks of the river for entertainment. If DC Park is established for people who leave the brick and stone city and rush to nature and the river during their idle time, it will not only be a source of entertainment for people, but it will also be an opportunity for employment for many people in the district. In addition, an economic zone is being developed nearby. As a result, this park will provide relief to the fatigue of people rushing from the district and outside the district. The locals demand that the work of the park should not be disrupted between proposals and proposals, and that the activities of the DC Park should start as soon as possible.
While walking along the bridge, ASHA student Md. Asif Hasan said that if DC Park is established in Kurigram, this district will represent the district as a role model outside. There will be a return to the gathering of visitors. He said that the people of the district will develop economically and socially.
Md. Abu Said, a resident of Dharla Bridge, said, I have heard the news of Kurigram becoming a DC Park. If this happens, many people in the vicinity will have businesses and new employment opportunities. If Kurigram DC Park is established, the lives and livelihoods of the people here will improve.
Md. Nahid Islam, convener of the Kurigram district branch of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, said, "If the Kurigram DC Park is implemented, it will provide new employment opportunities for the people of the district. This is undoubtedly a good initiative. We have no objection to the naming. Whatever the name, the name does not matter. We want the development of Kurigram."
Md. Mukul Mia, organizer of the Citizens' Committee, Kurigram district, said, "There is no place for the people of Kurigram to have entertainment. The government has about 30 acres of land lying on the eastern bank of the Dharla Bridge. If there is a Kurigram DC Park there, the people of the district will get a place for entertainment. We have given our opinion to name it Kurigram DC Park at the district coordination meeting."
Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh Kurigram district Ameer Maulana Abdul Matin Faruqi said, "We have no objection to the name Kurigram DC Park or DC Park Kurigram, whatever it is called. It was decided to make Kurigram DC Park after taking everyone's opinions at the district coordination meeting. He said that it should be implemented quickly.
District BNP Senior Joint Convener Professor Shafiqul Islam Bebu said, in a coordination meeting organized by the district administration on the proposed DC Park, it was decided that a park is needed in Kurigram for recreation based on the opinions of the leading party in the democratic movement, BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, National Citizen Party and civil society representatives. For this purpose, it has been decided to build Kurigram DC Park in Madhabram area next to Dharla Bridge. If this is implemented, people coming from Kurigram district and outside the district will get the opportunity to have recreation. The Deputy Commissioner had no personal opinion on the naming issue. He said that the decision to name it Kurigram DC Park was taken based on the opinions of all the representatives present.
Kurigram Deputy Commissioner Nusrat Sultana said, since there is no such place for recreation in Kurigram, an initiative has been taken to build Kurigram DC Park in Madhabram area on the eastern end of Dharla Bridge with the opinions of all the political and civil society groups of the district. This will make good use of the 30 acres of abandoned land left by the government and will also create employment opportunities for the people. My aim is to have a park in the district where there is no entertainment. In this regard, the proposal to make Kurigram DC Park has been accepted after taking the opinions of all the leaders of the district in the coordination meeting.
