School leaders and owners from across Bangladesh came together in Dhaka on Saturday 17 May to find out why OxfordAQA is the world’s fastest growing international exam board. The event highlighted how the board’s leading UK assessment expertise equips students to succeed in their futures internationally through prioritising higher order thinking skills and accessibility for students with English as an additional language.

OxfordAQA combines the knowledge and experience of two of the UK’s largest not-for-profit education organisations — Oxford University Press, a department of the University of Oxford, and AQA, the largest exam board for GCSEs and A-levels in the UK — to offer a fresh and fair approach to assessment for international students.

The event, which was held at the Westin Dhaka, and was conducted by Shahin Reza, OxfordAQA’s recently appointed Country Director for Bangladesh and Nepal. It also included presentations from Andrew Coombe, Managing Director of OxfordAQA, and Matt MacGregor, OxfordAQA’s Training and Support Team Leader. The event was graced by Professor Dr SMA Faiz, Chairman of the University Grants Commission, Bangladesh as the chief guest. And special guest Maxim Raimann, Exams Director, Bangladesh British Council, who gave their insights on the future of education in Bangladesh and formally declared OxfordAQA to be operational across the nation.

Professor Dr SMA Faiz, Chairman, University Grants Commission of Bangladesh, commented: “I’m absolutely delighted to know that OxfordAQA qualifications are now available for the students in Bangladesh. I hope they will make their qualifications more affordable for our students and offer necessary training, so our teachers are equipped to teach students by maintaining international standards”.

Maxim Raimann, Exams Director, Bangladesh British Council, said, “The British Council is committed to supporting UK exam boards with the delivery of high-quality exams.”

Shahin Reza, OxfordAQA Country Director, Bangladesh & Nepal, added, “It is exciting to see that the leaders from international schools are very much welcoming about the introduction of OxfordAQA exam board in Bangladesh. We are committed to supporting schools in Bangladesh in adopting OxfordAQA qualifications”.

Matt MacGregor, OxfordAQA Training and Support Team Leader, said, “It has been a privilege to meet and work alongside some of Bangladesh’s most passionate and dedicated educators. As OxfordAQA grows in Bangladesh, I look forward to bringing our comprehensive, dynamic, and examiner-led training, support, and thought leadership to teachers.”

Andrew Coombe, Managing Director of OxfordAQA, reflected, “OxfordAQA has a great academic heritage from the UK, spanning over a century. I am so excited to see the positive impact that our exams will have on the schools and students of Bangladesh. At OxfordAQA, we know we share the commitment of Bangladeshi educators to raise up global citizens who are well-rounded and future-ready. We look forward to our upcoming partnership with school leaders, teachers, parents and students across the country.”
