The government has taken strict measures to ensure a safe and smooth journey for holidaymakers ahead of Eid, including mandatory photo documentation of all long-distance bus passengers to prevent robbery.

Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury shared the developments with reporters on Tuesday (June 3) at his office in the Secretariat.

He said all inter-district buses must photograph each passenger, regardless of where they board—from the first stop or anywhere like Aminbazar or Savar.

Adviser Jahangir warned that no unfit vehicles will be allowed on the roads, even if they are repainted to look new.

“Vehicles without proper fitness clearance will not be allowed to operate under any circumstances,” he said.

The adviser said bus owners have agreed to comply with government directives following a recent meeting.

“We have requested bus owners not to assign inexperienced drivers during this time,” he said.

To ensure law and order, all leaves of law enforcement officers have been cancelled, except for emergencies.

“We are on high alert to ensure public safety and prevent any unwanted incidents across the country,” the adviser added.
