Three members of the Detective Branch (DB) of police were injured after drug dealers opened fire during an anti-drug operation in Fakirapool under Paltan Police Station early Wednesday.

Two of the injured officers—Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Atik Hasan and Constable Sujan—were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), while the third officer received first aid.

The incident took place around 12:45am when a group of DB police, acting on a tip-off, tried to intercept a private car suspected of carrying illegal drugs. As the car was stopped at Fakirapool intersection, the suspects opened fire on the law enforcers.

Deputy Commissioner of DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division, Muhammad Tabibur Rahman, confirmed the matter Thursday (June 19) morning.

He said the drug dealers fired from inside the private car, injuring three DB members.

Police later seized the vehicle and arrested three people along with 9,500 pieces of yaba tablets, he said, adding, legal action is underway.
