A team from the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested former Chief Justice ABM Khairul Haque from his Dhanmondi residence on Thursday morning (July 24).

DB Joint Commissioner Mohammad Nasirul Islam confirmed the matter.

He was detained around 8:30 am today.

“There are three cases against him,” the DB official said.

Justice Khairul Haque served as the 19th Chief Justice of Bangladesh. He was sworn in on September 30, 2010, and retired on May 17, 2011, upon turning 67.

Known for delivering several controversial verdicts, Justice Khairul Haque’s tenure sparked intense debate within the judiciary.

He was also criticized for allegedly receiving various privileges during the Awami League government, having been appointed Chief Justice by superseding several senior judges.
