Seven members of the same family, all women and children, were killed early Wednesday (Aug 6) when a microbus veered off the road and plunged into a canal in Begumganj upazila of Noakhali.

Five others were injured and rushed to the nearby hospital, according to police and local sources.

The fatal accident occurred around dawn near Jagadishpur in the Chandraganj Purbo Bazar area along the Noakhali-Lakshmipur regional highway.

According to police, the victims were part of a family returning home to Choupalli village in Hazirpara Union, Lakshmipur Sadar upazila. They had been travelling from Dhaka in a microbus, reportedly driven by an Oman expatriate, Bahar Uddin, who was accompanied by his relatives.

The vehicle lost control at a bend near the main road and fell into a canal. Among the dead were Bahar Uddin’s wife Kabita, and their daughter Mim.

Chandraganj Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mobarak Hossain confirmed the incident.

According to him, the injured were rescued and transported to various hospitals.

Emergency responders from the highway police and fire service were deployed to the scene for recovery operations, he added.
