BNP leader Ishraque Hossain has called on Local Government Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain and Information Adviser Mahfuj Alam to resign from the interim government, claiming their political affiliations compromise neutrality.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday (May 21), Ishraque said: "In a democratic manner, adhering to political etiquette and for logical reasons, I am urging advisers Asif Mahmud and Mahfuj Alam to resign. It is evident that you are affiliated with a political party and may be directly involved in the future."

He argued that resignation would boost the image of neutrality in the current administration and cited former colleagues who stepped down to maintain political ethics.

"If you resign, it will enhance the image of neutrality for the current government. But if you cling to power, you will inevitably have to provide special privileges to your party members."

Meanwhile, Ishraque’s supporters on Tuesday demanded his swearing-in as mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), threatening a complete halt to services if delayed. DSCC employee unions have joined the ongoing demonstrations.

A court verdict on a related writ petition is expected today (May 21).
